Frequently Asked Questions
A Place of Interest (POI) is a geographical area that you create within TNS and is associated with one or more Event Types.
When an event occurs within your POI, and the event type matches your selected event types for that POI, you will receive a notification via email which contains the details of that event and an online notification will become available in the “My Events” page accessible from the top right hand menu.

To create a POI, navigate to the "Register Places of Interest" page from the navigation bar. From here, click the "Create +" button under the Places of Interest heading on the sidebar on left of screen.
Note that the "Places of Interest" tab must be selected to view the “Create +” button. Start drawing your shape by first clicking on the map. Each spot you click will create a new vertex, and shape edges will appear between each vertex as you draw.
You can continue to place more vertices on the map to create as simple or as complex geometric shape as you require. To complete your shape, click on the first vertex to close the shape out. You will then be prompted to give your Place of Interest a name, and to select one or more Event Types to be notified about. You can create up to 10 Places of Interest within TNS.
TIP: You can zoom and pan the map while drawing your shape to give yourself more control over your shape.

You will receive both an email notification and an event record that is accessible through the “My Events” page within TNS. You will only receive notifications for your selected event types. This means that if you have only selected the Exploration Licence Application event type for a specific POI, you will not receive notifications for anything other than Exploration Licence Applications.

There may be a number of reasons that you have not received any notifications. It is possible that no event has occurred within your Place of Interest boundary of the Event Types that you selected. Check on the My Events page to see if an event was registered that intersected with your Place of Interest.
If you see an item on your "My Events" page, but you did not receive your email notification, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue;
TIP: The larger your Place of Interest, and the more Event Types you have selected, the more notifications you are likely to receive. If you are not receiving any notifications, try making your Places of Interest larger and adding some more event types, you can always restrict these in future if you receive too many notifications.
- Check your spam or junk folder. Sometimes, email notifications can end up in these folders by mistake. Make sure to look for any emails related to the notifications you're expecting.
- Verify your email address: Ensure that the email address associated with your account is correct. Double-check the account you are checking is the account you used when you signed up.
- Whitelist the sender: Add the following email address to your email provider's whitelist or approved sender list: tnsnotification@sa.gov.au. This will help prevent future notifications from being marked as spam.

If you no longer want to receive notifications from TNS you can delete your Place of Interest and you will no longer receive notifications. Any notifications that you have already received will remain on your My Events page.
If you are receiving too many notifications, you may wish to consider reducing your number of Places of Interest or the size of your Places of Interest. Remember – if you have a large Place of Interest, you are likely to receive more notifications.
Having a smaller Place of Interest, or having fewer Event Types will likely mean you receive fewer notifications.

Places of Interest can be modified at any time on the "Register Places of Interest" screen. To modify a Place of Interest, first select it by clicking on the relevant shape on the map or by selecting it via its name in the sidebar. To delete, simply click the Delete button on the pop-up box on the map.
To edit the Place of Interest, click Edit, and you will be able to modify the shape by clicking and dragging individual shape vertices. You can remove a vertex by clicking on it once.
To stop editing click “Cancel” to revert your changes, or “Finish” to save your changes. Once you have saved the changes to the shape itself you will be prompted to rename your Place of Interest and/or modify your selected Event Types.

Each event listed in the My Events table relates to a notification that you have been sent by TNS. The My Events page allows you to view a history of your past notifications, and to view the detail about these notifications including a visual representation of the geographical area of your Place of Interest in relation to the geographical area associated with an event.
When you are sent a notification, this notification relates to an intersection between the geographical area of an event that occurred and the geographical area of your Place of Interest. After receiving a notification you can modify or delete that Place of Interest, however the event will remain associated with the Place of Interest as it existed at the time the event occurred.
If you have multiple Places of Interest, and an event geometry intersects with more than one of these, you will see multiple events listed on your My Events page. To reduce incidences of this you may consider creating larger Places of Interest rather than multiple smaller Places of Interest.
TNS has been designed for optimal use on a Personal Computer using a mouse or trackpad device. TNS will also work on a touchscreen device, however some users may find it more difficult. While TNS can be used on a mobile phone, the experience on a smaller screen device will be sub-optimal. For the best experience we recommend a PC.
Additional information about an event that has occurred can be found on the DEM website. If you have any specific concerns or want to learn more about an event you have been notified about, you can contact DEM via the contact details available in the Contact Us page accessible in the menu at the bottom of the screen.
TNS only gives you information about new events that occur within your Place of Interest. For information about existing tenements or applications it is advised that you visit SARIG via the link in the address bar.
